Mumbai: After several Opposition leaders claimed that Mumbai has been underreporting the number of people succumbing to COVID-19, mayor Kishori Pednekar rejected the allegation and stated that it was not possible to do so.
She said that all the data on COVID deaths are recorded at three places and thus there is no chance that information gets hidden.
Referring to dead bodies of COVID victims found floating in the Ganga in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, Pednekar took a swipe saying that there were no rivers in Mumbai where bodies can be dumped.
"Data of COVID deaths are not being hidden. No data is being hidden in Mumbai. There is no river in Mumbai where bodies of people succumbing to coronavirus are being dumped. All COVID deaths in Mumbai are recorded at three places, so the data can't be hidden," she told mediapersons.
A few days ago, former
Maharashtra Chief Minister
Devendra Fadnavis had alleged that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been fudging data of COVID-19 patients. He had claimed that 40 per cent of the patients who have died due to the virus have been tagged as 'death due to other reasons'.
"Across Maharashtra, especially in rural parts, coronavirus deaths were not recorded and many people were not even tested," he added.
Till date, Mumbai has recorded a total of 15,100 fatalities, as per BMC's official data. Over 7.13 lakh persons have tested positive for coronavirus so far.
